ABC Warriors / RoBusters published double page poster, 2000ad Summer Special 1979

Media Type: Mixed Media
Art Type: Double Page Spread
Artists: KEVIN O'NEILL

Absolutely enormous and stunning enormous ABC WARRIORS/ RoBusters 'MEK WARS' double page Poster image form the 2000AD Summer Special 1979 ( July 1979 ).

Art is entirely drawn and painted by master comic book artist Kevin O'Neill. This is probably the largest and coolest  Kevin O'Neill published colour art you will ever see.

This is a real piece of 2000AD Comic book history! Kevin designed RoBusters and ABC WARRIORS, and this image was used to help define the look and design of Robusters/ABC WARRIORS. Kevin designed the Robusters/ABC Warriors, and this  was an ealy conceptual piece he did, and the Volgan logos were painted on afterwards. This is pre-series publication! Kevin prior to working for 2000ad/Starlord had his own sci fi fanzine ( Mek Memoirs ), and his designs for Rusters grew out of that.

The ABC WARRIORS were launched in the Summer of 1979 as a prequel to the popular RoBusters storyline which had migrated to 2000AD from Starlord weekly.
This is one of the very first ABC Warriors images, and in full colour!

'Mek Wars’ shows Hammerstein, Mek Quake, and Joe Pinapples fighting Volgan Death Troopers on a D-Day style beach assault.

Art area is 46 x 70cm on heavy art board in very fine condition.

Art is currently mounted in an archival frame, but can ve easily removed. No light damage, never displayed except athe V&A museum in 2000, as part of the art exhibition I was able to held there, celebrating 2000ad, in 2000ad.. Colours are all bright and crisp.  We have only photographed this piece due to the size, we didn't want to damage it on the scanner. Close ups can be emailed on request.
