A truely rare piece of 2000AD history here!
This is a page from the 'Mugger's Moon' story written by Gerry Finley Day, and drawn by John Cooper, published in 2000AD Prog 19, cover date 2nd July 1977.
This story was considered for the first ever printed Judge Dredd story, but was held back by Pat Mills due to it's violent story, which was eventually censored for publication! It was also one of the first 6 scripts written, and the only early one by Gerry Finley Day!
And this... is the censored page! In the first panel, the fleeing perp is running towards a garbage grinder, but in the original censored panel, Dredd shoots him in the back, knocking him INTO the grinder! Shot... In the back! The notes on the sides of the pafe ask for heatseeking rounds to be added, neutering Dredd shooting the fleeing perp! This is all laid out in the excellent book JUDGE DREDD - THE MEGA HISTORY.
Another nice detail is his badge, JUDGE, not DREDD, like Carlos's BANK RAID story. Only the first drawnstories have this detail.
The page is on CS10 art board in pristine condition. 41 X 49.5 cm
A true historical grail page!
